Real facts you should know about Groundnuts

Groundnut ( Arachis hypogaea ), which also goes by several other names such as peanuts, earthnuts, monkey nuts, pinders, etc, is actually a leguminous crop that grows in the ground.
   Groundnuts along with peas and beans are among the best sources of protein in the plant kingdom and they are also super high in polyphenols; the chief of the antioxidant group. Although peanuts are high in fat, like avocados, they are high in the “good” kind of fat – monounsaturated fat. They also contain magnesium, foliate, vitamin E, copper, arginine, and fibre – all of which are known to lessen the risk of cardiovascular disease. The nuts are really rich with significant, beneficial nutrients that are essential for optimum health. Some of these benefits are:
1.It helps to reduce the risk of colon cancer. Various studies have shown that nutrients found in groundnuts, including folic acid, phytosterols, phytic acid and resveratrol, may have anti-cancer effects. Eating groundnuts just 2 or more times each week has been associated with a 27% lowered risk of colon cancer in men and about twice that figure in women.
2. They contain antioxidants : Groundnuts contain high concentrations of the antioxidant polyphenols, primarily a compound called p-coumaric acid and oleic acid, which not only protect the heart but impede the growth of free radicals, keeping infections at bay. They also lessen the risk of stomach cancer by preventing the formation of carcinogenic nitrosamines in the stomach.
3. They contain Vitamin B3 which boosts memory and helps lower cholesterol: The same nutrient which gives groundnuts their memory boosting power also helps reduce and control cholesterol levels. Added to that is their copper content which aids in reducing bad cholesterol and increasing good cholesterol levels. Its known as brain booster.
4. Cardiovascular advantages: Regular intake of groundnuts helps to lessen the effects of aging whilst preventing several cardiovascular challenges such as stroke, heart attack and hardened arteries.
5. Helps to prevent blood related problems:
Groundnuts and groundnut products are very beneficial in the treatment of haemophilia and other related blood disorders. People suffering from nose bleeding also gain from eating groundnuts and it is also helpful in reducing excessive menstruation bleeding in women.
6. They help to combat depression: Peanuts are good sources of tryptophan, an essential amino acid which is important for the production of serotonin, one of the key brain chemicals involved in mood regulation. When depression occurs, a decreased amount of serotonin may be released from the nerve cells in the brain. Tryptophan may raise serotonin’s antidepressant effects when there is an increased amount of serotonin in the blood.
7. They are generally rich in vitamins and minerals: Groundnuts are rich vitamins and contain at least 13 different types of vitamins that include Vitamin A, B, C and E. Added to this, groundnuts are also rich in 26 essential minerals like calcium, iron, zinc, boron, etc. The cocktail of all these vitamins and minerals will help in brain function and development, strengthening your bones and purifying your blood.
8. Lowers Risk of Weight Gain:     Eating nuts regularly can affect loss of weight and maintains the body structure. People who eat enough nuts are found to have good posture.

The next time you make or prepare rice, preserve the water. Trust me, I doubt you will ever dispose your rice water after realising how useful it is. It is cheap and natural way to nurture your skin and hair.

      Rice water is rich in vitamins and minerals that makes it perfect for a flawless skin. Rich in a complex of B vitamins called "Inositol" that helps promote cell growth, and slows aging process.
    It also contains moisturising, antioxidant and ultra violet properties. It prevents hyper pigmentation and age spot.
    " Rice water serves as a good treatment for acne and eczema," said a dermatologist, however, it has not been scientifically proven.
      Other benefits of rice water therapy are for the treatment of inflammations, burnt skin, rashes and other skin inflammation. It also function as a facial cleanser, sun burn soother.

Method of preparation:
Things needed;
• A cup of rice
•2 cups of water.
       Firstly rinse the rice and Cook for about 20 minutes to get that extract( milky water). Allow to cool naturally or place in a refrigerator.

How to use:
Deep your cotton into the cool milky rice water and apply it on your face. Allow to dry on your face, the effect feels good !
    Store the remains in an air tight container and keep in cool area for future use.

Fatty catfish can be unhealthy

  Fish can be an integral part of diets in most parts of the world as a good source of reliable food nutrients. Its nutrients, particularly fatty acids and protein, have not only served as direct nutrients but also as components of healing process in many health conditions. Fish oils have been shown to offer outstanding health benefits to consumers due to the presence of the Omega-3 polyunsaturated fatty acids.
      In Nigeria, catfish, popularly known as point-and-kill, has adapted to nearly all parts of the country with a steady rise in its culture in recent years. This has resulted in the growth of aquaculture  in the country.
     However, in as much as these popularly known catfish can be good for our consumption, results have shown that it can also be dangerous to our health. The reason  is the abundance of Omega 6 fatty acids. In an interview with a cardiologist, Dr Jane Anisulowo, she States that farm or home grown catfish is the worst enemy as it contains more fatty hormones than ones harvested from natural water.
       According to her, fish is better than meat no doubt; it digest easily and it contains protein. "But cat fishes that they sell nowadays are cultivated with hormonal feeds that are filled with steroids and other fattening chemicals just to make them profitable." She said that these chemicals are cancerous in nature and it also has oil on its skin which makes it too unhealthy.
      The good news, she explained, is that if one can get the one from the river, it is edible but the one that is being reared by famers are better smoked. "It is only edible when it is smoked because some of its fats would have been lost.

2.In terms of cooking, onion helps to soften the food. E.g rice. And also it brings about fast cooking thereby preserving gas / kerosene.

The contest "man", is defined as a male human.
However, man is variably a distinct being from any other life being on earth.
   Man has passed through various stage which are:
1.Stone Age
2.Mesolithic stage(Middle stone age)
3.Neolithic stage(New stone age)

STONE AGE: This is extremely primitive or undeveloped era. A broad period during which humans widely used stone for tool making. E g bow, spear and arrows.

MESOLITHIC ERA: This era, otherwise known as middle stone age. These period lasted between 10,000 and 3,000 BC.

NEOLITHIC PERIOD: Related to the new stone age, this age is circumvent with new development.

     TEMPERATURE DIFFERENCE
All the stages passed by man, he experienced adverse temperature difference.
Temperature has served man through out the century and ages.
    Temperature Defined?
Temperature is defined as the degree of how cold or hot a body is.
  Therefore, knowing that the ideal room temperature=32°c and normal room temperature=29°c. Every human being is not suppose to live above these temperature or below them.

Multiple effects of Zobo

Zobo drink, also known as Zoborodo or Hibiscus drink, is a popular nutritious healthy drink to make at home. It's an ox-blood or red wine colored drink made from dry petals of the Rosaline plant(Hibiscus sabdariffa) which is a hibiscus specie. It goes by different names such as Rosella in Australia, Jamaican sorrel drink in the Caribbean, sobolo in Ghana m, depending on the region it's prepared. It's a rich natural healthy drink filled with enormous benefits I love preparing my zobo drink with more natural fruits including the Peels of the particular fruit I use for the flavour I want, but you may add artificial flavours and sweeteners such as foster clarks, Nutri C, jolly juice etc if you don't have the natural substitute.
Traditionally zobo drink has been used for years and thereby seen as a herbal health drink which has been known to help several health issues including high blood pressure, loss of appetite, circulation, Liver diseases, cancers and fevers and as a gentle laxative and diuretic.
Modern research also supports the fact that hibiscus has multiple  health effects. This definitely makes it one of the top 10 healthy drinks to make at home.

              How to make zobo
You will need: 5-6 cups of dried zobo leave.
Ginger (2-3 fingers)
2 sachets of joccy's pineapple flavours and 4-5 liters of water.
Procedure: Hand pick every unwanted substance from the zobo leaves and start cooking with about 4 liters of waters. Cook to boil before adding the ginger, you can chop them into tiny bit or grind with a kitchen blender the same way I did mine.
Cook for another ten to fifteen minutes before you taste the zobo. If it does taste alright then filter and add joccy pineapple flavour. Refrigerate and enjoy.
Zobo is one of the popular Nigerian drinks, easy to make. Better when served chilled.
