History of Transistor

The transistors is a semiconductor device capable of amplification. It is a very valuable component of modern electronic devices. Electronic devices have become so indispensable these days that we can not think of life without them.
The working of a transistors is very close to that of a triode valve. Triodes were developed to magnify radio signals. A triode had three electrodes-a cathode, a grid and an anode. It was used to switch in a much bigger current so as to amplify a faint signal considerably. It meant low-powered circuits could be used to switch on and off TV sets, electric motors etc.

The transistor was invented in 1947 in the USA at Bell Laboratories. It could control current in many ways and so replaced the triode. It is because of the transistor that electronic devices could be made much smaller compact and more cheap. The transistor also consumed far less electric power. They were used in radios, magnetic tape recorder, television and early electronic computers. Transistors were made using semiconductors and their capacity to conduct electricity at increased temperature.
